Just when it looked like 3D was the savior of all (visual) media, it looks like the torch has already passed to a new contender, 4K.

Be careful what you wish for, you might get it…. This old saying could have been created with the current state of the market for video cameras in mind. For the last couple of years, there really hasn’t been any real competition for the quality of images you could produce with some DSLRs , based on what they cost relative to their much more expensive high end video camera cousins. If you were willing to overlook or work around their obvious (and sometimes glaring) faults, there was no more cost effective way to produce sometimes-stunning results. But now the manufacturers have listened and the stampede of large sensor cameras is on.  Buyers beware, however, there still be dragons out there.

It used to be that your choices for lighting in a given situation where fairly straightforward. You either used a tungsten Fresnel or open-faced light, directly or bounced off of some reflective device or diffused with a silk or other media, and that was pretty much it. Sets tended to get hot quickly, and stay that way, and you needed a lot of light to make the cameras of the day look good.
